The wife of Man Haron Monis who was shot dead by police after a 17-hour siege in Sydney is 35-year-old Amirah Droudis. Shortly after her partner was shot dead, she reported to Campsie Police Station, a condition of her bail. Ms. Droudis is facing charges for being a murder accessory to the alleged killing of the killed gunman’s first wife, Noleen Hayson Pal, who was stabbed 18 times and then set alight in April 2013.

In the past she has created online videos expressing happiness for the 9/11 and 2002 Bali terror attacks and the Holocaust. Ms. Droudis is from a Greek family in Belmore, a suburb in south-western Sydney, and changed her name to Amirah before marrying Monis.

In another video, Ms. Droudis condones rape. “It is not fair if we condemn the rapist without condemning the one who has encouraged the rape,” she said.

Mr. Monis’ connection with Ms. Droudis may explain the fact that he also had a Greek-Australian lawyer representing him. Lawyer Manny Conditsis said that his former client was an “isolated figure” who fled Iran because he was in fear of his life. Mr. Conditsis described him as a “damaged-goods individual who did something outrageous.”

Mr. Conditsis claims that his former client acted alone, but the police are looking at the involvement of Ms. Droudis by raiding their modest red-brick home.

He had a history of mental health issues.
