Germans seem to not easily forget their national currency, the Deutschmark, even though their path within the euro is successful.
According to German magazine Der Spiegel, Germans have held on, as relics, coins and notes totaling 12.9 billion DM!
In particular, according to the Bundesbank, right now, 13 years after the adoption of the euro, about 169 million DM in notes and 24 billion in coins can be found in drawers and chests of German citizens.
The value of 12.9 billion DM corresponds to 6.6 billion Euros, with each German proportionally holding the sum of 160 Deutschmarks.
