A 55 year old man entered the home of his brother in law in the area of Oreokastro in Thessaloniki and killed him along with his wife and 12 year old child.

According to preliminary information, cause of the triple murder seem to be of economic nature between the perpetrator and his brother in law who was an OPAP agency owner.

This allegedly was the motive that prompted him to wipe out the entire family.

Athanasios Kamaris was unemployed and occasionally some shifts as a taxi driver and was armed with a pistol and knife when he visited the house of his sister Alexandra.

Still remains unknown why he did not use the gun during the fight, but reportedly preferred to massacre the whole family with a knife in an unprecedented display of savagery and once he realized his actions he attempted to end his life in the same way.

Since he failed to do so, he then attempted to kill himself by jumping of the balcony. However, it was too close to the ground, so he failed again and as a result he was then arrested by police officers.
