Unknown assailants entered anti-austerity rightist Independent Greeks (ANEL) deputy Pavlos Chaikalis’ Pallini home at dawn on Saturday stealing jewelry and two valuable watches amongst other items. Sources state that the burglars also took the service gun of the wife of the well-known actor/politician who happens to be a police woman.

The intruders entered through the first-floor balcony of the home while the deputy was watching television on the ground floor.
In statements made to Proto Thema, Mr. Chaikalis described the nightmarish night, stating that his wife is still in a state of shock following the intrusion.

“They stole two watches and some items of jewelry belonging to my wife that are mainly of sentimental value. What can I say? I’m still shaken up after all that happened last night,” said the actor. “I still can’t believe that they came and robbed us while we were in our house. Naturally, worse things could have happened. They could have attacked us and caused us bodily harm.”

“We were lucky in our bad luck,” he added, noting that the police were immediately notified following the robbery.

“I’ve been told that it was probably the work of a ring that strike at houses in the Pikermi region. I still don’t know anything more and we’ll see what the police told us,” said Mr. Chaikalis. “It is unbelievable what can happen when you don’t expect it. What can I say? I’m still shocked. You know that my mind tells me that this could have escalated into a tragedy. Of course, I’m aware of that after all the things we’ve seen and heard. Luckily, all is well, even though my wife is naturally shaken up and we’re trying to calm her.”
