Hostage J. Cantlie’s guided tour of the Islamic State (video)

ISIS released an eighth propaganda video featuring captured photojournalist J. Cantlie

Newsroom January 4 09:49

The Islamic State posted its eighth propaganda video of British hostage John Cantlie giving a tour of the Iraqi city of Mosul. The 43-year-old photojournalist looked different to the previous videos where he wore an orange Guadanamo Bay-styled uniform. Looking particularly refreshed, the captured photojournalist presented a documentary-styled clip in English claiming that “life in Mosul is business as usual” rather than the “misleading” media reports suggesting that the city is “living in fear”.

Mr. Cantlie visited a market a hospital and a police station throughout the 8-minute video. He visited the psychiatric ward of a hospital where children had been affected by the bombs raining down on the city.

ISIS militants had captured the country’s second largest city in June and murdered more than 2,000 Shia prisoners and soldiers.

Mr. Cantlie had been kept hostage for more than two years by ISIS militants. The video released in November had seen an orange-clad hostage from behind a desk saying that he had accepted that his fate was “overwhelmingly likely” to be the same as other captives.
