Speaking from the floor of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Angela Merkel emphasized that the European principle of “Solidarity comes in response to the reform efforts and responsibility” still applies.
The German Chancellor rejected a possible Grexit scenario, and explained that she has received assurances that the majority of Greeks want to remain within the Eurozone.
She further stated that all of her efforts are focused on Greece remaining in the euro and she also stressed the importance of both solidarity and responsibility.
In regards to developments following the upcoming elections, Merkel noted that “what will happen after elections will be discussed and decided after the elections.” She said: “Our experience on the euro crisis, shows that we will always find a European solution, based on solidarity and responsibility.”
