Vicky Stamati, wife of former defence minister Akis Tsohatzopoulos, being held at Dromokaitio Psychiatric Institution after her escape has requested to testify before prosecutor Grigoris Peponis. Her lawyer, Frangiskos Ragousis, told Proto Thema that his client wishes to make “revelations concerning people and (the state of) things.” He did not give details regarding the testimony but said that his client wishes to only speak before Peponis in a private meeting.
Research concerning the conditions under which Stamati managed to leave her room at Domokaitio on Thursday morning are still being investigated.
A former Dromokaitio employee, aged 46, helped Stamati, who is being held for money laundering in association with her husband’s activities when in government. The woman and her daughter testified with her daughter on Saturday.
Sources state that the former employee will not stand accused as an accessory. The woman is a dismissed nurse from the psychiatric facility who gave Stamati shelter on the night she spent out of Dromokaitio. Authorities arrested her after Stamati’s own confession.
Court of Appeals Prosecutor Isidoros Dogiakos intervened so that both the woman and her daughter could be free without charges for the time being.
Sources state that the woman in question wanted to help Stamati for the sake of charity because she saw a “miserable woman”.
Stamati surrendered herself to the police after calling Ragousis and being convinced that she had to return to the facilities where she had been held.
