Opa! Greek restaurant in the Netherlands holds ‘Grexit week’ with …Tsipras plate

Specialties also include Varoufakis and Dijsselbloem dishes - Prices in € and Δράχμες

Newsroom June 23 07:43

Leave it to an expatriate Greek, especially a restaurateur, to come up with a unique way to trump up business. For Dimitris Kotsalas, 62, Monday’s crucial Euro summit was the inspiration for dishes named after some of the protagonists in the current “Greek issue” drama — Greek PM Alexis Tsipras, Dutch FinMin and Eurogroup head Jeroen Dijsselbloem and even Greek FinMin Yanis Varoufakis.

The entire campaign, in fact, is known at “Grexit Weken (week)” at the eatery, in the southeastern Dutch city of Nijmegen.

“Tsiprasschotel” includes pork fillets with sauce, and is the most expensive dish at 18 euros, or, if you still have any, 5,700 drachmas of old.

“Varoufakisschotel” is a souvlaki (meats on a spit) dish, with pork chops and gyro meat — at 17.50 euros.

Finally, “Dijsslbloemschotel” is souvlaki with spicy meatballs and gyro meat, also 17.50 euros.

Beyond the obvious levity of the publicity stunt, the owner himself told the news-site gelderlander.nl that he’s very concerned about what is occurring in Greece and the rest of Europe.
