Some 10,000 people gathered in front of Greece’s Parliament on Wednesday afternoon to protest against a second package of measures linked to the third Greek bailout, agreed to by the government last week with European creditors.
Two separate rallies were organized — one by the communist party-affiliated PAME labour group and another by the civil servants’ union (ADEDY) — while towards nightfall the first sporadic violence was recorded when the “usual perpetrators”, self-styled anarchist youths, began throwing firebombs at nearby riot police.
The disturbances, however, abated quickly, while dozens of people were detained by police.
