The latest issue of commemorative gold coins issued by the Bank of Greece, as well as last year’s issue, have sold out, given Greek investors’ efforts over the past few months to try and find a “safer haven” in the still “capital controlled” and political crisis-plagued Greek economy.
The €200 gold coin (7.98 gr) features the ancient philosopher and inventor Archimedes on its observe; the €100 mini gold plus coin depicts the mythical goddess Hera on its obverse, while the €50 gold coin depicts a geometric pattern representative of the Delphi archaeological site, considered the “navel” of the Hellenic world in antiquity.
According to the BoG, individual investors can only purchase one coin, while commercial traders were allowed up to 500.
