The “freshest” opinion poll on Wednesday shows conservative New Democracy party gaining 30 percent of respondents’ preferences to leftist SYRIZA’s 29.5 percent, days ahead of the Sept. 20 snap election in Greece.
The poll was conducted by the Thessaloniki-based University of Macedonia and presented by the Skai television station.
Ultra-nationalist Golden Dawn comes in third with 6.5 percent, followed by the Communist Party (KKE) at 5.5, while social democrat PASOK and centrist Potami posted 5 percent.
The perennially marginal Union of Centrists party appears set to make its Parliament debut, as it posted 4 percent, while the far-left SYRIZA breakaway bloc, Popular Union, hovers at the 3 percent mark needed to enter Parliament.
Finally, results of this poll also show the Independent Greeks’ party failing to enter Parliament.
