The Hellenic Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEEPLNO) confirmed that a Dutch tourist is currently being treated at a large private hospital in Athens after being infected by cholera. KEELPNO President Thanasis Giannopoulos stated that doctors fear the possibility of a cholera outbreak.
The Dutch man, aged 70, began to show symptoms of gasterenteritis while vacationing on Kos, part of the Dodecanese chain near the coast of Turkey in the Aegean Sea.
Doctors are concerned that a return of cholera to Greece may be imminent and are trying to ascertain how the man got the disease. A KEELPNO delegation is heading to the island of Kos to gauge the situation.
