Interim conservative New Democracy leader Evangelos Meimarakis invited Central Macedonia’s Regional Governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas to attend the next meeting of conservative party MPs. Both Meimarakis and Tzitzikostas are vying for the party’s leadership along with former ministers Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Adonis Georgiadis.
The leadership candidates will express their opinions of what the party’s stand should be during the upcoming vote of confidence to be held in Greek Parliament on Wednesday. They will also express views on the implementation of the reforms mandated by Greece’s international creditors from the European Commission, European Central Bank, International Monetary Fund and European Stability Mechanism.
It has been decided that all four leadership candidates are to take place at the EPP conference to be held in Spain on October 20 and 21.
The party’s central election committee is also set to decide on the date and procedure of the ND leadership vote. It was decided that the initial date suggested (Oct. 18) was too soon and it is believed that the party will vote for its next leader around November 1.
