The most luxury and perhaps the most expensive yacht is docked at popular Psarou beach of the cosmopolitan Greek island of Mykonos: the motor yacht A which belongs to Russian tycoon Andrey Melnichenko.
The yacht A is a luxury yacht designed by Philippe Starck and Martin Francis and constructed by Blohm + Voss at the HDW shipyard in Kiel, Germany.
It was delivered to Andrey Melnichenko at a reported USD 300 million cost price.
With a length of 119 metres and displacing almost 6,000 tonnes, it is one of the largest motor yachts in the world.
Some sources mention that the name A is derived from the initials of its owner Andrey and his wife Aleksandra. But, this seems to be just a co-incidence.
The main reason for the name A, is the fact that the yacht will appear first in shipping registers.
Its exterior design, which designer Starck had likened to being “more like a fish than a building”, has evoked comparisons with submarines and stealth warships, while commentators have referred to it as the “most loved and loathed ship on the sea”.
Yacht A is decorated, equipped, and staffed to an extremely opulent standard. There is almost 24,000 square feet of interior space, including 2,500 square feet for the master suite. Mirrored surfaces feature extensively throughout the interior, along with Baccarat crystal which is used not only for the glassware and tableware, but for the furniture too.
There are six guest suites, although they have moving walls and can be converted to four larger staterooms whereas 37 staff are employed on the yacht.
