World instability means more Russian and German tourists to Greece in 2016

Deutsche Welle reports that more Russian and German tourists are expected to visit Greece in 2016.

Egypt and Turkey, past popular destinations for Russia, noted a decline following the Russian passenger plane crash by ISIS bombing and the recent downing of a Russian jet fighter by the Turkish Air Force.

As a result, Russian tourists will choose Greece as an alternative holiday destination in the coming year.

The report calculates that two million more tourists mainly from Russia and Germany will come to Greece in 2016. The total 4.5 million Russians who usually visit Turkey and Egypt will not all go to Greece due to the significantly higher cost.

The weakening ruble may result in less Russians traveling abroad in 2016. However, German travel operators have increased their travel offers to Greece in 2016 compared to 2015.
