An eight-year-old refugee boy at the Piraeus port passenger terminal has been confirmed to have hepatitis A and was admitted to Agia Sophia children’s hospital in Athens.

This was the second case of hepatitis A diagnosed among refugees arriving in Greece. On Friday, a 9-year-old boy at Idomeni camp was transferred to General State Hospital of Thessaloniki “Hippocrates” where it was confirmed to have hepatitis.

After the second incident, doctors are warning of a disease outbreak, especially among children who are more vulnerable to diseases such as hepatitis.

However, up to now hospitals have not been prepared to treat such cases, if the number of infected people rises.

Moreover, questions have been raised on the fact that HCDCP and Ministry of Health confirmed the hepatitis incidents on Tuesday, even though they had been known about them since Sunday.
