Belgian media which earlier reported the arrest of a prime suspect in Tuesday’s bomb attacks in Brussels said the person detained was not, in fact, Najim Laachraoui.
La Libre Belgique newspaper said another person had been arrested, while DH, which first reported the arrest, also said that the man detained in the Anderlecht district had been misidentified.
The Belgian website “HLN” says that the Belgian authorities have concluded that Mohamed Abrini is one of the terrorists responsible for the deadly attack in Brussels airport and that he is the third person in the below photo from the airport.
Laachraoui, a 24-year-old Syrian, reportedly left Syria in February 2013 and travelled to Europe using the false name of Soutane Kayal with Salah Abdeslam.
Police have confirmed that his DNA was found on several explosive belts which were used in the November attacks.
The Belgian police had also released photos of the third man in an effort to gather as much information as possible.
