While the Greek government decided to unexpectedly pass one of the harshest social security bills through parliament, partisan journalist’s unions have decided to offer a helping hand by declaring a 48-hour strike, leaving the Greek public in the dark and the government to any criticism. The decision to ‘muffle’ the news flow during such critical times when the public need to be informed about the details of the new bill is provocative, given the outcry the previous media strike caused among journalists, eventually leading to the breaking of the strike. It is unprecedented for journalistic unions to be playing the government’s mouthpiece by silencing any voices of legitimate criticism.
