Following rumours that the EU was mulling over a ‘Plan B’ that would see large open camps built on a number of Greek islands to host refugees and migrants, Migration Commissioner Dimitris Avrampopoulos responded to a question submitted MEP Nikos Androulakis during discussions at the European Parliament on the liberalisation of visas for Turkish nationals. Avramopoulos claimed that no such plan existed stressing that any rumous to the contrary were completely unfounded. ‘The European Commission is working on the principles of solidarity that guide us’. he said. He continued by stressing that the Commission guaranteed the implementation of the actions agreed on so far regarding the refugee crisis. ‘There is no need for any concern’, he noted.
