One police sergeant and two special guards were arrested for participating in arms trafficking ring during an operation launched by Hellenic Police on Saturday morning in many regions of Greece, from Crete to Komotini.
Police have already arrested 18 people, who are involved in the case, aged 27-59 years, including two special guards and one police officer, while 28 more people are also accused for participation in the arms trafficking ring.
According to a police statement, the criminal organization has been engaged in arms trafficking since 2002. As the evidence shows, they used to get non-functional weapons mainly from Austria, Germany and the USA, and then convert them to working guns and sold on the domestic market.
During the police raid, authorities found and confiscated 45 pistols, 9 rifles, three hand-grenades, 22 shotguns, 11 air-guns and large amounts of various types of ammunition during their raids.
