Five people have lost their lives due to the heavy rainfall in the past few days. A 30-year-old man from Ksilokastro was the last “victim” of the extreme weather conditions. He tried to drive through a stream in his car, a few meters away from his house, but he was swept away by the fierce water. His dead body was found at 10.30 on Friday night in the river Fonissa, in Kamari village of Ksilokastro. The deceased was Spiros Valimitis, a well known local personality who owned a taverna in the area made famous due to his occasional appearances on tv shows.

Another four people died in Messinia, in the Peloponnese, while one woman is still missing in the Thermaikos Gulf in Thessaloniki.
The heavy rain caused Pinios river to overflow, leaving the residents of the village Valamandri of Trikala homeless. The Fire department helped them to move from their homes to a safer place in rowing boats.
A stream became inundated with rain and overflowed at the 38th klm of the National Road of Grevena – Trikala. Two people got stuck in a car and a truck and it was the Fire Department that set them free.
The General Secretariat for Civil Protection of Thessaly recommends that the civilians should not move around the driveway from Chrysomilia and Kastania to Kalabaka and Trikala, because the rivers have overflowed their banks and the traffic is extremely dangerous.
The situation is similar at the National Road of Lamia to Karpenisi, where the heavy rains have made the road unsafe and in the airlift of Stavros until Lianokladi cars could not pass through due to rainstorms bringing stones and dirt on the road. Meteorologists warn that the extreme weather conditions will continue through Sunday.
