UN holds first-ever summit on refugees and migrants

Tsipras is expected to deliver his speech between 12.00 and 13.00 local time

The UN is to convene a summit on migration and refugees to address the more than 65 million people displaced by conflict.
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, together with leaders from around the globe, will take part in the first-ever summit on Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants on Monday in New York. The working session is scheduled to start at 08.30 and will last until 19.30 (New York time). Tsipras is expected to deliver his speech between 12.00 and 13.00.
Afterwards Tsipras will address the fourth Round Table of the UN Summit (Global compact for responsibility-sharing for refugees; respect for international law).
On Tuesday UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will offer a reception in honor of the heads of states and governments followed by an event by the president of the General Assembly and the UN Secretary General for the first anniversary of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The leaders’ summit on the refugees issue chaired by US President Barack Obama will follow.
On Wednesday, Tsipras will meet with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The Greek premier will depart from New York to Vienna on Friday 23 September.
