SYRIZA in free fall, latest poll shows

ND consolidates double digit lead

Newsroom October 4 08:25

The findings of the latest poll aired late Monday night on SKAI TV reveals that ruling SYRIZA party is facing an unprecedented collapse in its support, as it recorded a 12.5% difference for major opposition party New Democracy (ND). The survey, conducted by the University of Macedonia (PAMAK), sees conservative ND consolidating a double digit lead over SYRIZA among the voters’ choice. The new poll comes on the heels of another negative survey published in the Sunday edition of pro-government newspaper ‘Avgi’, which put the difference between the two parties at 10 percentage points in favour of the conservative party. More specifically, the new poll shows that 28.5% of those polled would vote for ND, compared to 16% who would support SYRIZA. Extreme right Golden Dawn (GD) received 7.5%, followed by the communist party (KKE) with 5.5% and the Democratic Alignment with 4.5%. Minor coalition partners in the Greek government ANEL and the Union Centrists were at 2% of the vote failing to reach the 3% threshold necessary to enter up parliament, while centre party To Potami, which is currently represented in the Greek the national assembly, has plummeted to 1.5%. The findings also showed that 62% of voters believe ND would be victorious in the upcoming elections, compared to only 13% who said they thought SYIZA would win. A large majority (85%) said they were disappointed with the government’s performance so far, while 56% responded the coalition government of SYRIZA/ANEL had nothing more to offer. On the matter of the tender for the TV licensing, 64.5% said they believed the procedures were politically motivated, while the respondents were favourable (81%) concerning ND leader’s recent promise that he would cut the ENFIA property tax by 30%.
