Syrian rebel groups have announced that they have decided to attend the peace talks backed by Russia and Turkey in Astana, Kazakhstan.
President Bashar al-Assad’s, Russian backed recent victories, especially at the districts of eastern Aleppo set the new diplomatic effort in motion.
The Russian attempt was joined with by Turkey and for the first time it seems that there might be a reasonable chance for peace in the area.
What has not being clarified, though, is whether the US will be invited to the talks or not. Until now, there are contradicting information leaking from various sources.
The ceasefire is still holding on, regardless of the various violations recorded so far. The rebel groups stated that one of the first issues they will address in Astana will be these violations by the Syrian Army, as they say.
