The Turkish authorities arrested and jailed the Die Welt correspondent Deniz Yucel last Monday charged for spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization, incitement to violence and incitement of hatred.

 
The German Chancellor Angela Merkel called this as “bitter and disappointing” and added that the journalist voluntarily appeared before the authorities when he got informed of the investigation. She also called for more respect on the freedom of speech by Ankara.

 
Deniz Yucel, who has both the German and the Turkish nationalities, was working on a story about the hacked e-mails of Erdogan’s son in law and Minister of Energy, Berat Albayrak by a leftists hacker.
