A paediatrician who left Australia in 2015 to join ISIS has resurfaced in a new propaganda video, urging Muslims in the West to join the terror group.
Perth-born Tareq Kamleh – dubbed ‘Dr Jihad’ – is seen for the first time in more than two years in an official six-minute video released on Tuesday.
Now going by Abu Yousef al-Australi, he appears pale, with dark circles under his eyes and sporting a long, straggly beard.
In the clip, he is seen treating a child in a hospital before speaking to the camera while sat in a narrow tunnel under the Syrian city of Raqqa, urging Muslims in the West to travel to join the so-called caliphate.
Before his spiel, Kamleh – dressed in scrubs – is seen appearing to treat a child in a hospital, who he says has been injured in a blast.
‘Is this one of the terrorists that America’s wanting to hit?’ he says, pointing to the little girl, who he later reveals has died.
‘We are dealing with the countless numbers of burnt children that are coming in now from the continuous bombings that America is dropping on us.’
He adds: ‘Is this really a war on terrorism?
‘Is there no shame in those Muslims still in the West?’
Then, clad in combat gear and brandishing a rifle, Kamleh sits in a narrow tunnel and chides Muslims who haven’t made ‘hijrah’ to join ISIS.
‘It really surprises me how the Muslim nation is acting at the moment and how stagnant you have all become,’ he says.
‘We are under continuous bombing here and we are fighting hard to try and hold the lands of Islam.
‘What more will it take for it to be a justified cause for you to come here and fight?
‘And if you can’t come here, jihad itself isn’t only in the lands of Syria or only in the lands of Iraq.’
He adds: ‘You are living in the countries that are sending us rockets. You are living in the countries that are killing Muslims in here and you are still paying taxes to them.
‘You have no honour. You have no self-respect. You have no love for fellow Muslims.’
Kamleh then says he has a message for the ‘kuffar’ (non-believers) before he begins taunting US President Donald Trump.
‘Now, a message to the Kuffar, to old Trump,’ he says.
‘We were so happy because for a long time we have been waiting for your soldiers to meet us on the ground here.
‘And your effeminate predecessor Obama danced around this subject for too long.
‘He refused to send us your soldiers and now we know they are on the lands wanting to enter our lands.
‘We are really eagerly awaiting your attempt to enter our cities.’
Chillingly, he concludes: ‘We love death more than you love life.’
Kamleh’s former colleagues, at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide and Mickey Base Hospital in Queensland, accused him of being lazy and leading a lavish playboy lifestyle while in Australia.
His appearance in the propaganda video comes as Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Trump and other world leaders head to Germany for the G20 summit.
The summit will kick off on Friday with a leader-level discussion behind closed doors on terrorism, at which Mr Turnbull will call for cyberspace to be treated just as seriously as the battlefield in countering ISIS.
