Eurostat: Greece remains the country with most jobless in all categories

Youth unemployment a huge concern

Unemployment in our country remained stable in November 2017, compared with October. According to Eurostat data, the unemployment rate in Greece remained unchanged at 20.9%. A slight rise in youth unemployment (under from 42% to 43.7% was recorded.

Compared to November 2016, the jobless rate declined from 23.3% to 20.9%, recording the second largest drop in the EU within a year.

In the Eurozone as a whole, the unemployment level stood at 8.6% for January 2018 compared to December 2017, registering the lowest level since December 2008, while it remained unchanged at 7.3% in January and in the EU.

Overall, there were 17.931 million jobless registered in the EU for January and 14.111 million unemployed in the Eurozone.
Greece still remains the EU member-state with the highest rate of unemployment (20.9% in November), followed by Spain (16.3%). The lowest unemployment rates were recorded in the Czech Republic (2.4%), Malta and Germany (3.6%).

In Greece, the number of unemployed in November amounted to 996,000, with the rate for men being 17.1% and for women 25.8%.

Youth unemployment (under 25) in Greece stood at 43.7%, a rise from 42% in October. In EU, the comparative rate was Spain (36%) and Italy (31.5%).

The lowest rates were recorded in the Czech Republic (5.8%), Estonia (6.5%) and Germany (6.6%).

Finally, the November rate for youth unemployment in the Eurozone amounted to 18.2% and in the EU to 16.2%.
