Turkish media still praise Tsipras & SYRIZA for not voting the country’s defense budget

"Tsipras' accusations against Mitsotakis: Why are we arming ourselves? Will we become a superpower?"

Newsroom December 24 11:00

The pro-government media in Turkey continue to praise SYRIZA and Alexis Tsipras, for his decision not to vote in favor of the country’s defense spending in the 2022 Budget.

After the publication of the Hurriyet newspaper with the title: “Tsipras’ accusations against Mitsotakis: Why are we arming ourselves? Will we become a superpower?”, follows a report in the news bulletin of the television network Haber Global, in which special reference is made to the recent statements of the leader of the main opposition, emphasizing that: “he harshly criticized the government”.

With the caption: “Greece’s hopes for the purchase of F-35 aircraft revived” the Haber Global report states: “The United States of America has given the green light, but the essential issue is money. The opposition is reacting to the government’s defense spending and in fact the former Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras wondered ‘Why are we arming ourselves, are we a superpower?’. The United States of America has passed the law that paves the way for the sale of F-35s in Greece. Athens is starting to calculate how it will be able to buy the expensive aircraft. Greece will pay 2.5 billion euros to France for the 18 Rafals and also pledged 3 billion euros to pay for the three French-made frigates. The opposition reacts. SYRIZA’s party stressed that the defense budget expenditures reached the same level as in 2009 when Greece was on the verge of bankruptcy. SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras harshly criticized Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis”, the report states.
