Heavy snow is falling in the center of Athens.

The crews of the Municipality of Athens are throwing salt in front of the Monument of the Unknown Soldier as the situation is expected to worsen in the coming hours according to the forecasts of meteorologists.

In the meantime, the north and west of the prefecture, has been covered with snow since the morning, while heavy snowfall is falling at this time in the southern suburbs too.

In fact, at 10:30 in the morning, the Civil Protection sent, through 112, a message to the residents of Attica, warning of heavy snowfall in the coming hours.

Due to the bad weather, traffic jams have been caused on the main roads of the northern suburbs, while the Athens-Lamia National Highway remains closed from the height of the Kalyftaki bridge and from the Inofyta junction in the current to Athens. The rest of the vehicles are required to use anti-skid chains.
