Elon Musk’s “Constantinople” tweet causes strong reaction by Turkish users

The richest man in the world posted a photo of a Byzantine soldier with the word 'Constantinople'

Newsroom June 18 07:53

Elon Musk made a humorous tweet about the Fall of Constantinople a few hours ago, referring to the legend of Kerkoporta, a door left open which was breached by the attackers in 1453.

Specifically, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX uploaded to his Twitter account a photo with the figure of the “stickman” in which he is depicted as a Byzantine soldier with his helmet, waking up in his sleep and trying to remember if he locked the gate of the Kerkoporta, from which the Janissaries entered and occupied Constantinople in May 1453.

His post sparked a storm of reactions from Turkish social media users who were commenting below that the city is called Istanbul.

It is worth noting that after the announcement of the acquisition of the online platform, he very often goes on posts, in which he comments on situations and current affairs in his own particular and sarcastic style, in order to support the right to freedom of speech on the internet.
