A security camera captured the horrifying moment when the passenger and freight train collided outside Larissa, killing and injuring dozens of people. Currently, the death toll stands at 57, while search operations are still underway.

Based on what can be seen in the video, the freight train en route to Larissa and the passenger train that started at 19:22 from Athens are on the same line, moving at a speed of 166 km/h, and cannot avoid the collision, with carriages they go up in flames after that.

The freight and the passenger train collided at 23:21:18 on Tuesday night, moving on the same line – The Larisa station master allegedly admitted his error.

According to the information that has emerged, the accident appears to be due to the wrong handling of the Larissa station master who, in the “Larissa – Evangelismos” section, directed the passenger train to the downward traffic line, resulting in it being on the same line as the freight train.

During his deposition at the stage of the preliminary investigation, the station master of Larissa, who has been arrested, allegedly admitted his fatal mistake and attributed it to “bad timing”, while a case file has been filed against him for serious crimes. He was subsequently charged with a felony.
