Greece’s major national highway and its side roads are closed as the country has been cut in half due to the situation with the floods in Thessaly and the overflow of the Pinios River.

In particular, on the Athens-bound route, the Athens – Thessaloniki highway and all its side roads from Katerini to Lamia are closed.

Also, on the road to Thessaloniki, the highway and its side roads are closed from Larissa to Imathia.

This is a large part of the highway, which the authorities have been forced to close due to the very difficult situation in Thessaly.

The authorities are making a strong appeal to people not to move in these areas to avoid creating traffic jams around the highway as it makes their work unpleasant.

TO ATHENS

The temporary suspension of traffic for all vehicles on the Motorway, on the traffic flow from Thessaloniki to Athens and specifically from the height of the Malgara toll, until the border with the Police Directorate of Pieria, was announced by the General Police Directorate of Thessaloniki, due to an increased volume of water in the Thessaly Region.

The suspension has started and will remain in force until traffic conditions are deemed safe. Vehicles with a final destination in the Regional Unit of Pieria are excluded.

For vehicles bound for Athens, traffic diversions are being implemented from the junction of Kleidi in Imathia and traffic is being diverted via Egnatia Odos.

Emergency vehicles (ambulances, ambulances, etc.) and roadside assistance vehicles are excluded from the traffic regulations.

TO THESSALONIKI

Specifically, the traffic of all vehicles on the Motorway in the traffic flow towards Thessaloniki has been temporarily suspended, namely:

-from km 261+280 (Magnesia – Fthiotida prefecture boundary) to km 321+580 (Magnesia – Larissa prefecture boundary), excluding those destined for the city of Larissa &

Excluded are vehicles whose final destination is the Regional Unit of Pieria, as well as road assistance vehicles and emergency vehicles.
