Taste Atlas: ‘Italians will be very upset’ – Greek freddo superior to cappuccino

The cold espresso and cappuccino is Greek... A Greek invention, but one that has a global appeal - These are the world's most popular coffees

Newsroom March 7 12:11

Italians are a proud people, just like the Greeks.

They don’t take it very well when someone insults their products or if someone puts pineapple on a pizza, even if someone drinks a cappuccino after 12:00 noon.

Now understandably, with the Taste Atlas list they will be quite upset, as Italian coffee has a lower rating than those “invented” by the resourceful Greeks.

Specifically, the well-known website that deals with food and beverage rankings has published a list of the coffees that have the best rating from the public.

These lists are based on public ratings, with a series of mechanisms that identify real users and ignore the ratings of bots, nationalists or patriots, and give additional value to the ratings of users that the system identifies as knowledgeable.

The most popular coffee in Greece seems to have great appeal in other countries as well, as freddo espresso is in the number 3 position, with its “sibling”, freddo capuccino, a little behind it.

The Greek presence in coffees does not stop there, however, as in “9” we have frappe.

In the top ten, Italy has two representations with the traditional capuccino at “6” and the espresso ristretto at “8”. And as the most popular comment in the post reads: “The Italians are going to be very upset!”.

At the top of the list is Cuban espresso.

A pre-sweetened type of espresso that originated in Cuba and is known as café Cubano and is often referred to as Cuban espresso, Cuban coffee, Cuban pull or Cuban shot.

Although it holds a unique status in Cuba, where it is traditionally a staple social and cultural drink, Cuban espresso is also very popular and widely available throughout Latin America and Florida.

It consists of a shot of espresso sweetened with sugar during its preparation.

This variety of espresso is made by brewing the darker roasted coffees with sugar, which results in a light brown foam at the top of the coffee.

Cuban-style espresso is considered an afternoon standard usually served with a glass of water.

For an authentic Cuban experience, it is best paired with a good Cuban cigar.

The big surprise, however, is in second place where the Indian filter coffee is found.

It is a brewing technique in which coffee is brewed using a special filter.

This filter consists of two chambers – the upper one with a perforated bottom that is used to hold the ground coffee and the lower one in which the brewed coffee slowly drips.

This brewing technique results in a rich-tasting, full-bodied coffee, which is usually blended with milk and sweetened with sugar.

It is traditionally served in a glass with an accompanying saucer (davara).

Sometimes the combination of coffee and hot milk is continuously poured from one container to another until it aerates and foams.
