New homophobic attack in Thessaloniki – The perpetrator was arrested

The attack took place on Monday - It was preceded by a violent incident against two transgender people on Saturday night

Newsroom March 12 08:39

A new homophobic incident occurred on Monday in Thessaloniki, on the pavement of the White Tower.

In particular, there was an attack against a member of the LGBT community.

The 32-year-old perpetrator has reportedly been arrested, while earlier the victim had filed a complaint for insult.

The case is being handled by the relevant racial violence unit.

It will be recalled that the unprecedented group attack on two transgender people in Aristotelous Square on Saturday night by dozens of young people had caused a sensation, which resulted in the intervention of the police and the arrest of 21 people.

As the victims (both 21 years old) reported, a group of people verbally attacked them and threw bottles at them, with them finding “shelter” in an adjacent catering establishment to protect themselves.

The assailants continued to harass the two men even when police forces arrived at the scene, with whose assistance the victims of the attack were taken to the police station where they lodged a complaint.
