Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ appearance in Moschato at noon on Saturday, together with MPs, ministers and executives of the New Democracy party, created a rather euphoric atmosphere among the Prime Minister’s associates.
After the difficult weeks that have passed, the impeachment motion and intra-governmental turmoil, the atmosphere in the neighborhood of the ruling party’s offices highlighted the image of rallying in the blue ranks.
For some, it even reminded them of the first event of the New Democracy party after the tragedy of Tempi, this time last year, in a square in Maroussi.
Mitsotakis’ associates told protothema.gr that the image reminded the prime minister’s associates of national elections “next Sunday” rather than European elections, which are 2.5 months away from now.
Admittedly, the mobilization that had taken place was large, with several members of Youth Organisation of New Democracy, as well as party voters, while Mitsotakis also took a short stroll through the surrounding streets and shops in the area.
What stood out, however, was not only the pulse of the citizens who gathered, but also the exhortations to the Prime Minister that were heard. In this sense, associates of the prime minister see in the ranks of the ruling party’s voters a climate of “reaction” in the shadow of the political controversy over the tragedy and believe that “they are annoyed by the instrumentalisation of Tempi”.
“They are only interested in one thing: how Mitsotakis will fall. Nothing more. We won’t do them any favours, because I am in this position because I get power from you. Because you voted for me, not because someone appointed me.
That is why I want to ask you to treat this battle of the European elections with the necessary importance”, Kyriakos Mitsotakis underlined, giving the European elections of June the character of a national ballot box. The Prime Minister also insisted that he is not in coalition with anyone.
Tours and decisions
Mitsotakis will start more targeted tours in the coming period, while he plans to visit Kalavryta on Tuesday.
At the same time, final details are being finalised for the ND congress next Friday at Zappeion, which will be a meeting point for all generations of the party, given the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the ND.
At the same time, Mitsotakis’ decision on the changes to be made in the Maximou building is pending, with Makis Voridis moving from Monday to the government staff from Zalokosta Street and taking over the responsibilities of Stavros Papastavrou.

For the position of Yannis Bratakos, many names have been heard behind the scenes, such as the director of the Prime Minister’s office in Parliament, Michalis Bekiris, but it seems that the Prime Minister is working on other options, with a combination of political and technocratic characteristics.
It is expected that the issue will be closed early this week, as the position is of a nerve-wracking nature and cannot be left vacant for political, as well as substantive, reasons.
