This is a three-part story that follows a man with no options who is trying to regain control of his life, a police officer who is concerned because his wife, who had disappeared at sea, has returned and seems to be a completely different person, and a woman who is determined to find a certain man with a special ability who is destined to become a wondrous spiritual leader.
The film marks the fourth participation of a film by George Lanthimos and screenwriter Efthymis Filippou in the competition section of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
Making his debut fifteen years ago, in 2009, George Lanthimos first gained international attention with Dogtooth, which won the Un Certain Regard Award at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival.
This was followed in 2015 by the premiere of his first English-language film, The Lobster, which won the festival’s Jury Prize. Lanthimos’ last appearance at Cannes was in 2017, where he premiered The Killing of the Sacred Deer, which won the best screenplay award.
