French actor Gerard Depardieu has been placed under police custody in Paris for questioning, as confirmed by his lawyer to CNN on Monday.
Reportedly, the 75-year-old actor voluntarily presented himself at a police station in Paris on Monday morning.
The questioning pertains to allegations of sexual assault made by two women, purported to have occurred on film sets.
This isn’t the first time Depardieu has faced such accusations.
Previously, he was formally investigated for rape and sexual assault following complaints from several women. Depardieu has consistently denied these allegations.
Depardieu is renowned for his performances in movies such as “Green Card,” “The Man in the Iron Mask,” and “Life of Pi.”
He received an Oscar nomination in 1991 for his starring role in “Cyrano de Bergerac.”
In 2013, amid protests against government tax policies, Depardieu made headlines by obtaining Russian citizenship from President Vladimir Putin, renouncing his French citizenship in the process.
