The Holy Week begins with stronger northerly winds, according to the National Weather Service, however, on Wednesday, they are expected to weaken. In addition to strong winds, the weather for Holy Week will be characterised by heat and rain in some areas.
This element combined with the many simultaneous outbreaks that occurred on Sunday made the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, to convene an emergency meeting of the Civil Protection Coordination Body with the participation of the Fire Brigade, Civil Protection, the ELAS, the General Director of Forests Ev. Gountoufa and the Risk Assessment Committee.
At the same time, in a post on X, Mr. Kikilias warned of the significant penalties that negligent arson now carries. As he stressed, only in the last 24 hours, three arrests were made, the prescribed fines were imposed and files were formed with one of the arrested to be taken today to the Prosecutor.
