A new earthquake of 3.1 magnitude was recorded on Saturday (11/5) at 16.20 in Kefalonia.
According to the revised solution of the Geodynamic Institute, the epicentre of the earthquake is located 4 kilometres north – northwest of Valsamata with a focal depth of 16 kilometres.
Recall that yesterday Friday three other earthquakes were recorded in Kefalonia with magnitudes 3.9, 4.1 and 3.1.
As stressed by Professor of Geology and President of the OASP, Efthymis Lekkas, speaking to protothema.gr, yesterday’s three tremors are part of the normal for the Ionian region seismic activity.
“We are monitoring the phenomenon, it does not inspire concern,” Lekkas said, adding that the tremors are expected to continue in the same order of magnitude. They are identified to originate from a known transverse fault in the Ionian arc.
