Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides condemned Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s call for Lebanese authorities to open the sea to migrants heading for Europe via Cyprus, deeming it unacceptable. Despite Nasrallah’s remarks, no new measures were implemented, as existing controls at the Green Line had already been strengthened as part of a comprehensive migration strategy.

Christodoulides emphasized the need to address this challenge, reaffirming Cyprus’s commitment to taking necessary action as an independent sovereign state. Recent reports suggest increased measures at three specific locations in Cyprus to manage potential land migration flows, including reinforced checks by contract police officers and other personnel. These measures are set to undergo reassessment in a forthcoming meeting.
