National Health Services Organisation (EOPYY) terminates the contract with 50 doctors due to over-prescription

'We have put in place the diagnostic protocols, which are being implemented for the first time, and we have reinstated the prescription cut-offs' the Health Minister said

Newsroom May 16 04:30

The termination of the contract with 50 doctors due to over-prescribing is being proceeded by the National Health Services Organisation (EOPYY), as revealed by the Minister of Health, Adonis Georgiades.

‘We have put in place diagnostic protocols, which are being implemented for the first time and we have reinstated the prescription cutters. We have put in place a special law to be able to control over-prescribing by doctors and we have already sent the first 50 doctors to EOPYY to terminate their contracts.

All this has been done within 5 months,’ the health minister noted in an interview with Real Fm.

The termination of contracts is part of the measures to control pharmaceutical spending, which has gone out of control. The Ministry of Health is moving forward with a series of initiatives to limit spending and thus reduce the automatic reimbursements (clawback and rebate) that the pharmaceutical industry is required to pay.

In order to change the … landscape in pharmaceutical policy, the Minister of Health announced through the 5th Conference of ygeiamou.gr changes in the financing and control of pharmaceutical expenditure within the next two months.

Among other things, a ‘separate innovation channel is being promoted, so that companies interested in bringing certain drugs to Greece can know that if they come to Greece, this is the money that the country can allocate for this part. We will know how many new drugs have applied to come in, so roughly how much they will have as a clawback.’
