Weather: The air stream brings African dust – Which areas will be affected

Temperatures up to 29 degrees - Where rain and thunderstorms are expected

Newsroom May 17 12:16

African dust returns, bringing prolonged heat. Today, Friday, the western and southern parts of Greece are affected.

The warm air masses from Africa will impact more regions over the next few days, at least until the middle of next week, when temperatures will slowly begin to decline.

The phenomena are driven by the jet stream, which, according to a previous explanation by Thodoris Kolydas, “are created by a combination of atmospheric heating and the Earth’s rotation around its axis. This upper atmospheric flow, along with the nearly gale-force southerly winds blowing in the west, will cause the transport of African dust and high temperatures in our region until the beginning of next week.”
