The confessed killer of 11-year-old Vasiliki in Pyrgos is due to enter a plea today under draconian security measures.
At the city’s courthouse the atmosphere is tense so the presence of strong police forces is expected, while in case the gathering of the crowd does not allow it, then the apology of 37-year-old is likely to take place at the police station.
Local police, however, according to local media, have sent a warning message that they will not tolerate any action that suggests revenge or vendetta.
The wave of outrage that has spread across the region over the 37-year-old’s heinous act is immense and the fear of acts of retaliation is great, especially after what happened last Wednesday during the funeral of the 11-year-old girl, when unidentified people set fire to the cabin where the perpetrator and his family were staying.
At the time of the arson, no family members of the 37-year-old were in the shack as all his relatives had reportedly already left the village, fearing reprisals.
At the same time, it is recalled that on Tuesday (11/06), relatives of the victim attempted to lynch the perpetrator, surrounding the police car that transported him to the courthouse.
The 37-year-old has been charged with five offences: manslaughter with intent, attempted rape of a minor, kidnapping of a minor, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon.
