Yorgos Lanthimos: His New Film “Bugonia” Set for November 2025

Lanthimos Reunites with Oscar winner Emma Stone

Newsroom June 26 12:43

Acclaimed Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos’s latest project, “Bugonia,” will premiere in US theaters in November 2025.

The film is inspired by the 2003 South Korean sci-fi comedy “Save the Green Planet!” written and directed by Jang Jun-Wan. The screenplay, penned by Emmy winner Will Tracy, revolves around two young men obsessed with conspiracy theories who kidnap a powerful CEO, convinced she is an alien intent on destroying Earth.

Lanthimos once again collaborates with his muse and Oscar winner Emma Stone, and Cannes-winning actor Jesse Plemons, known for “Kinds of Kindness.”

“Bugonia,” the next film from six-time Academy Award-nominated director Yorgos Lanthimos, is set to hit theaters on November 7, 2025.

Focus Features will handle the film’s distribution in the U.S., Universal Pictures will manage international distribution, and CJ ENM will handle Korea.

The film’s production team includes Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures, Emma Stone for Fruit Tree, Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, and Lanthimos for Square Peg, and Miky Lee and Jerry Ko for CJ ENM, co-sponsored by Fremantle.

“Bugonia” marks Lanthimos’s ninth feature film and is eagerly anticipated for its release on November 7, 2025.
