A 15-year-old from Syria was arrested for illegally transporting nine refugees, including seven accompanied minors in a private car.
The obviously overloaded car he was driving was noticed by police officers on the old Thessaloniki-Serron highway (at the height of Lachanas). Ignoring the police signal to stop, the juvenile developed speed, but the vehicle was stopped, resulting in the 15-year-old being arrested.
Inside the car were found two families of refugees from Syria and Iraq who had illegally entered the Greek territory through Evros in the previous 24 hours.
This is not the first time that the Hellenic Police arrested minors for illegal alien trafficking. Behind similar cases are usually circuits of slave traders who, for a fee, use minors to do this “work”, considering them “expendable”.
The 15-year-old Syrian boy was earlier taken to the criminal prosecutor.
Meanwhile, another case of illegal trafficking of migrants was revealed in the last 24 hours by police checks at the borders of the prefectures of Thessaloniki and Serres, with the arrest of a 19-year-old Palestinian who was transporting five refugees, four Syrians and one Iraqi.
