Former U.S. President Donald Trump and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico were targeted due to their “anti-war views,” Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated today.

Orban is an ally of both Fico, who was shot four times in mid-May, and Trump, who survived an assassination attempt on July 13.

“All these attacks are against anti-war, pro-peace politicians,” Orban said in an interview with the state radio station Kossuth, adding that “pro-war forces are so incendiary, nervous, motivated and organized that they try to eliminate peace-loving forces from the scene, from the center of political life.”

“God has plans” for Trump

The Hungarian Prime Minister, who undertook a so-called “peace mission” for Ukraine earlier this month that included a meeting with Trump, said that the former president survived the attack because “God has plans for him” to promote peace.

Orban’s Foreign Minister, Péter Szijjártó, has said that Hungary sees a second term for Trump as an “opportunity for peace” in Ukraine.

Orban mentioned that he spoke with Trump for two hours during their meeting in Florida on July 11. Today’s interview is the first time Orban has provided detailed information about the meeting.

He said they discussed various issues, including economic matters, and that his team assists Trump’s aides with policies.

“We have a very good relationship with those working behind the president in drafting his agenda for economic and foreign policy,” Orban said.

“I could say we are participating in the process of composing this agenda. There are some topics like family policy and halting immigration for which we are highly regarded.”
