The neutralization will take place at 8:00 a.m. the morning of Friday, August 2 and it is suspected that there will be an explosion. The bomb is large (in the order of 500 pounds, about 226 kilograms), petrified, and is located 500 yards from the nearest residences.

Huge precautionary walls will be created around the bomb to absorb the shockwave, and experts assure that there will not be the slightest disturbance or impact on the surrounding areas, apart from -perhaps- noise. Traffic regulations will not need to be made, as the bomb is far from residential areas.

“World War II may have ended nearly eight decades ago, but its scars are still present in our country – even underground. Another bomb has been found at the site of the redevelopment work at the former airport, we are in constant cooperation with all relevant agencies and the relevant Department of the Army, so that this neutralization process is also carried out in an absolutely perfect way. There is not the slightest reason for concern”, assures the mayor of Glyfada George Papanikolaou.
