The separation of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck appears to be a fact.

Friends told DailyMail.com that the 51-year-old actor and the 55-year-old singer are moving forward with the divorce after a final reconciliation effort in recent weeks failed.

The couple’s divorce papers “have been finalized but not yet filed,” multiple sources claim.

The news follows Affleck’s purchase of a new $20.5 million mansion in Pacific Palisades on Wednesday, July 24, the same day Lopez turned 55.

Friends of the star claimed that the actor’s sudden purchase on her birthday was a “stab to the heart.”

This purchase came just days after the couple put their Beverly Hills mansion up for sale for $68 million.

July 24 also marked the day Lopez finalized the sale of her four-bedroom penthouse in New York for $23 million, according to People.

“They finalized the divorce papers a month ago but are waiting for the right time to file them,” claimed a source close to the couple.

“At that time, they will release a joint statement expressing how much they love each other and how they fought to make it work, but ultimately couldn’t.

Honestly, in the end, they couldn’t come to a compromise. What they had before is gone, and both have accepted it,” another source said.
