The Most Heartwarming Animal Rescue Moments During the Fires in Attica

With the firefront extending over 40 kilometers, the destruction we have witnessed is beyond measure

Newsroom August 14 09:26

Although there are no major fronts at the moment, only small hotspots remain, but the next 24 hours are crucial for everyone—for the volunteers, the people who have lost or are fighting to save their homes, the firefighters, and the animals.

This is a tragic scene we have experienced before and hope never to experience it again.

For those of you who were on the front lines of the fires and helped in any way you could, the images you saw will undoubtedly remain etched in your memory forever.

And for all of us who follow the developments on our phone and computer screens, we feel despair over the situation and the exhaustion—both physical and psychological—of the people involved.

Amid all this despair, however, there are some incredibly touching rescues of both humans and animals. As topetmou.gr, the largest site for pets, we have gathered the most powerful and heartwarming animal rescue moments—moments that left a mark on us, brought tears to our eyes, and may be impossible to forget.

The Reporter Who Rescued a Dog in Penteli

Star TV reporter Aris Lampos, while live on air, rescued a shocked little dog. The dog, visibly terrified, approached him, and the journalist took it in his arms and carried it away from the flames.

The Policeman Who Rescued a Dog from a Burning House in Penteli

A police officer rescued a frightened dog from a burning house in Penteli. He gave it water to cool down and recover from the shock, then transported it to a safe place. According to a report by Proto Thema, the dog was later taken in by an animal welfare group and transferred to a specially designed shelter.

The Volunteer Who Administered First Aid to Fire-Affected Turtles in Penteli

A volunteer from the Wildlife Protection Society (ANIMA) provided first aid to fire-affected turtles in need in the Penteli area. As seen in the video, the volunteer administered IV fluids to the turtles and placed them in small cages.

The Red Cross Volunteer Rescuers Saving Animals Left Behind in Vrilissia

As seen in the photos, volunteer rescuers saved and provided first aid to dogs that were left behind and might not have had any chance of safely escaping the fires on their own.
