His intention to contribute “to the continuation and augmentation of the Holy Land’s effect globally, with its influence and its embrace”, is expressed in the statement of the new governor of Mount Athos, Alkiviadis Stephanis during his official reception and installation in Karyes.

Alkiviadis Stefanis reads as follows:

“It is with great honor and a sense of responsibility that I assume my mission as the Commander of Mount Athos, a beacon of Orthodoxy, tradition, and culture.

I thank the Holy Community of Mount Athos for the warm welcome. My sole purpose is to serve the Athonite State and to contribute to the continuation and augmentation of the global radiance of the Holy Land, with the influence and acceptance that rightly belongs to it.

I pledge to cooperate with the Holy Community and the spiritual leader, His Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch, concerning the centuries-old status and mission of Mount Athos.”
